about

Embark on a sonic journey that transcends boundaries with "Trio II," the second release from bassist Marty Holoubek. Building upon the foundation of his debut album "Trio I," Holoubek returns with a fresh ensemble and an evolved musical direction, joined by long-time collaborators guitarist May Inoue and drummer Shun Ishiwaka.

Continuing on from the exploratory nature of "Trio I", "Trio II" propels us further into uncharted musical territory. The compositions oscillate between moments of quiet contemplation and explosive bursts of creativity, capturing the essence of the trio's shared musical vision.

Holoubek's compositions are a sonic playground where structure and improvisation coalesce, allowing the musicians to express their individuality while maintaining a collective spirit. May Inoue's guitar artistry spans the spectrum, from delicate and soul-stirring solos to collaborative exchanges that showcase the trio's shared knowledge and connection. Shun Ishiwaka's rhythmic explorations provide a solid foundation, infusing the music with an ever-present sense of groove and momentum.

As you delve into the immersive soundscape of "Trio II," you'll be transported to a realm where genre distinctions fade away, leaving only the pure essence of musical storytelling. The album is a fusion of influences, a testament to the trio's diverse backgrounds and shared passion for pushing artistic boundaries.

Whether you're a fan of jazz or an open-hearted music enthusiast, "Trio II" invites you to witness the culmination of three exceptional talents converging in a symphony of innovation and harmony. Let the music carry you through a myriad of emotions, and allow Marty Holoubek and his trio to guide you through an unforgettable auditory expedition.

On Trio II Marty Holoubek says "We recorded this album in the mountains of Yamanashi during the blistering Japanese summer of 2021, escaping the relentless heat and the peak of one of Tokyo's biggest COVID-19 waves.

It was an absolute pleasure to make music with May and Shun. Playing with the two exceptional musicians always allows a sense of musical freedom and trust that is one of life's greatest joys. I hope you have as much fun listening to this record as we had making it"
